Sometimes, the answer to a mismatch is....there is no answer!

When I played Mike from the DFW here in Los Angeles last month, I faced just that scenario. His corners with the arms forward simply knocked my receivers over. His other zoning guys spinning around handled anybody I tried to slip out by stacking the receivers. His defensive line manhandled my line. It was a total mismatch and there really wasn't much to learn by lining up play after play to hear the board buzz and watch all my guys fall over. So, I took the time to call the game and learn by asking questions about how Mike created his team and how I might be able to improve mine. He was most gracious in helping me out and teaching me some of his tricks of the trade. Reggie Rutledge walked over and helped out as well. That to me was a very nice moment. There are some in this hobby that don't like to share their knowledge and that hurts us all. Mike and Reggie are true class acts though!

There is always hope. I wish you were here in the DFW area. I taught Mike a system that has powered us to 8 Super Bowl titles between the two of us and 12 of 14 appearances in the Championship.

The system works and having the right athletes is most important. I show people the "Spread Offense" and most will not run it because it seems high risk. We show how in the Shootout system how easy it is to get receivers open. It just a matter of having creative schemes and knowing what your players do.

We do take this stuff pretty serious down here in Texas and sharing that knowledge is something that EVERY coach in the DFW League knows he must do. What you saw out of Mike and myself is not uncommon in the DFW. EVERYONE shares knowledge and information because we want the classic fantastic finishes and the only way to do that is to make sure everyone is on a level playing field. And that is done by teaching coaches everything that you know (if they want the information).
