Cowboy substitutions...

Here are the changes I'd make to the roster.

On Offense:

QB Roger Staubach for Aikman

RB Either Robert Newhouse or Moose Johnston at Fullback; or Preston Pearson as the 3rd down back... instead of Barber.

TE I'd go with Billy Joe DuPree, Doug Cosbie, or Jay Novacek (take your pick) over Witten.

OL/C John Fitzgerald or Tom Rafferty over Stepnoski

OL/T Erik Williams for Flozell Adams

On Defense:

First and Foremost after Bob Lilly... the very next name should have been HARVEY MARTIN... this is a glaring omission. ;) You can get rid of both Jim Jeffcoat, and Greg Ellis at DE. Insert Harvey and make Ed TooTall Jones the DEs. Randy White and Mr. Cowboy Bob Lilly will be the DTs.

LB I'd take out D. Ware and put in Thomas Hollywood Henderson and Ken Norton Jr. Maybe in another few years Demarcus gets back in.

DB Your secondary is pretty good... I'd probably take out Dennis Thurman (only) and then add in Cornell Green and Deion Sanders.

Don't

Remove Demarcus Ware. Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson played great in the Superbowl but then became an also-ran. He allegedly used drugs on the sidelines and only lasted four years with Cowboys. I used to play that team back then every year. Football wise, Demarcus is clearly the better player. Now, since his short career and troubles, Hollywood has bounced back after being blessed with winning a lottery and has redeemed himself admirablyl. But we're talking football right?

Where is Calvin Hill (Grant's Dad) or Duane Thomas at running back?

At tight end if you are passing a lot go with Novacek (Not home grown) and Witten. Hall of Famer Mike Ditka made a stop in the big D, if you are not going drafted only there is no peer.

For that big balanced tight end that can block and get open definitely Billy Joe Dupree. In fact, Billy Joe Dupree played his whole career in Dallas. I think he went to the Pro-Bowl at least 3 times.

THANKS DON,

Cowboy minds think alike, cause those are the EXACT changes i would have suggested. The only one i disagree with is D.Sanders. True, he is who he is, but a Dallas Cowboy on an all time Dallas Cowboy team?, aah, i dont know. Maybe, but i dont know. You coulda EASILY put MICHAEL DOWNS on that all time team:D :rtfl: :D

I feel you HOOP... about Deion. I added him because he played 5 years for the Cowboys, and he fit Tomkat's 3/4 year minimum requirement. Now hoop you gotta remember during Deion's tenure with the Boyz; Deion played on a Superbowl Championship team... He was First Team ALL PRO 4 times, and made it to 4 ProBowls. Not to mention... Deion played (not to shabby) offense, and QB's rarely threw his way when he was on defense.

Hoop sorry I didn't mention Michael Downs. He was good a good DB along with his partner Ron Fellows. When you look at Tomkat's selections... it's hard to squeeze those guys in. I'd like to see Benny Barnes, and Kevin Smith in as well, but there isn't a lot of room at the top.

R O N F E L L O W S !!!!!!!!!!
:rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl:
i couldnt stand that guy!!!! I love em though, #27, but man he used to drive me crazy!!!!
He was like the 80's version of #46Marc Washington.

Deion was all that with the Cowboys, but he was all that before he came also. And the fact that he was a 49er still sits bad with me. Ken Norton too, but atleast he was Cowboy first and was home grown. But my argument for Deion wont stand up, he was good. and yes, not bad at all on offense, especially with that nice deep catch on the Steelers in the SuperBowl.

Kevin Smith? hmmmmm. One of my favorites. Would have stood out more if not on a team already with 5 HOFers and much talent around him.

HOW ABOUT MY MAN HERSCHEL???????? He was good with Dallas and (in a way) along with JJ, brought the farm to cultivate those championships.

HONORARY MEMBER AND SENTIMENTAL FAVORITE

BILL BATES.

i did not realize he played 14 years with the Cowboys. He out lasted Downs and Walls, the 2 guys he came in with the same year.

How do you take out Jeffcoat? He's Dallas's all-time leader in sacks. Keep em coming.

OldSchool 02-11-2009 07:26 PM

Why No Jeffcoat?!?

Here's why Tomkat...

Jeffcoat is only the sack leader because sacks were not an official stat until 1982. If all sacks were official then Jeffcoat would be fourth on the all-time Cowboy list. Here's the numbers if you include career sacks.

Harvey Martin 11 years 114 sacks
Randy White 14 years 111 sacks
Ed Jones 15 Years 106 sacks
Jim Jeffcoat 12 years 102.5 sacks

Here's some more info about Harvey Martin: (This is why I stated that his absence from the roster was a glaring omission.)

As part of the famed Doomsday Defense, Harvey Martin led the Cowboys in sacks seven times. Martin went to the Pro Bowl four times and was co-Super Bowl MVP in Super Bowl XII (shared with teammate Randy White). He still holds team records for most sacks as a rookie (8 - 1973), in a season (23 - 1977), and career (114). Former Cowboys GM Tex Schramm stated "He'll be remembered as one of the great Cowboys of the golden years ... He was a great player, one of the first great pass rushers." Martin followed up his 23-sack 1977 season with a 14 sack performance in 1978, 9 in 1979, and 12 in 1980.
