I love 4.0 because it allows for a wider base of figures without having to alter their natural stock look. That's really up to you.
I think that for what I like to do in playing the game, they have a better feel. The 4.0 guys seem to be more stable at higher speeds.
When I originally created the 4.0 system, it was aimed strictly at the DFW and being able to implement all figures. Originally I was not even going to play with the figures in the league until about 5 guys said they wanted to play with them.
And thus, the 4.0 gram class instituted.
It's kinda like the 3.2 gram system Dirk Thomas and I created more than 14 years ago. At that time, there was no standard. We just took a simple chemistry scale and talked it through from Ohio to Texas based on having a tournament which would be called the Texas Shootout.
Because we respected the work of other creators like Larry Walker and Brad Wellington's work, the standard for our tournament was changed to 4.0 in 1998. I knew I could not fit Larry Walker's work in under 3.2 and his efforts should be commended. Also, the brown base had come in to focus and was heavier than regular TTCs so that was accounted for as well.
We found with time that for what we were after, the heavier weight fit our tournament better. Our thinking is and always has been, "those that will come, will come". I will not twist anyone arm to come and be a part of a 4.0 tournament but always welcome them.
Today, many people enjoy the 4.0 standard as they are using them freely and openly in leagues throughout the country. They find out what I already know and that's what so good about it.
I think Wolf hit it on the head! It's really up to that tournament or league. For me, it does not matter whether a league plays with 4.0 or 3.2 as long as they play the game.
Just my opinion!
