It all started innocently enough
With a post that was full of teams,
Boards and players and stadiums
That were the stars of one man’s dreams
We all read and looked it over
And smiled or gave a sigh
But little did we know that it
Would be the post that wouldn’t die
It came and went as all posts go
As we’d forgotten it, that’s when
It got bumped back up not once nor twice,
But over and over again
Surely we’d seen the last of it
What’s left that we hadn’t seen?
It must be Friday the 13th,
Or maybe Halloween
Like Freddy returning to Elm Street
You ignore it, or at least you try
But soon you realize there’s no escape
From the post that wouldn’t die!
It’s enough to make you crazy
Or maybe just a little pizzed
But you find yourself reading it
To see what you might have missed
Five years from now I’ll be living
In my padded cell
The Doc’s will be sitting
Where they can not hear me yell
I'll explain to them about the post
I'll tell them everything I knew
But they will all just shake their heads
They can't believe it's true
One night I’ll hear a ruckus,
And a gunshot in the dark
I’ll look out my cell’s window
And see a man lying in the park
It’s just another suicide
And tears will fill my eyes
As I know another person had found
The post that wouldn’t die!
