How Much Does Paint Weigh?
Has anyone done this or have credible info on this:
If I weigh a figure, say a Miggle big man, then I prime it, paint it, decal it and add a facemask, what will the new weight be? Does anyone have any stats on how much weight, in grams that detailing a figure adds to it? I am searching the threads and can't seem to find anything. I thought I saw this once, but it might have been back on the Miggle board. I know I can easily do this little experiment myself and find out, but I was looking for a quick answer. In the mean time I'll keep searching the threads. Please help if you can. |
i'm sure that it depends on what type of paint is used. i think that i have weighed figures before and after and it brought them up between .1 and .2 grams.

When I sold some FF.com figures on ebay, I had changed out platforms, took some weight out of the interior etc.. to get them to 2.0 grams.. I made sure to keep the weight on those unpainted figures at 1.83 to 1.87 grams. .to leave room for painting.. So I left .13 to .17 grams room for painting.. That doesn't mean you couldn't come in heavy.. but that's a good guide.. At the time, I experimented with water based paint to see what kind of weight it added to the figure. I'm not sure if the oil base (like Testors) adds more weight than the latex or not.. Hope this helps. |
Chinese paint adds 1.3 lbs due to the extensive lead content. flg$

Thanks Coaches
That's the kind of baseline number I was looking for.
