Bases of the future
Okay guys, I am sitting here watching college game day and checking the chat board. I was reading about the concern for recievers getting off the line and I realize that I have a great recieving corp with unique abilities to standard bases. I love to tweak bases and I have been playing around lately with making bases do things that they normally don't do.
So here is my challenge... Be a miniature football base designer for a few minutes and think up a base that you think would make the game better! Think of a base that...if it could do "this or that" it would create a paradigm shift and make the game evenbetter! If I can tweak a baase or make a new "frankenstein base" to mimic your idea I will send you one or two. Joe |
i know this is stupid.... but remember when you were younger and had that toy from the cracker jacks that had a spring mounted on a suction cup....you push it down and the spring made it jump up in the air like 10 seconds later,
I always wanted to make a base for goal line runs that would do that....run about 3 or 4 yards and POP into the air to try and leap the defensive line to score. But i thought also that a base with say, a rubber band with tension so the base could start out sideways, then the dial would be turned by the band and the base would then go straight. i dunno...to much time on my hands i guess mtmstnks mtmstnks |
Wow !! Rick I would love to see either of those two bases in action.
As long as it was not against me.LOL So the RB goes Over the top . greatness. Joe what have you started?? How about this. You have a WR on the base but where the base and the player meet he is on a swivel stick. As the Corner trys to grab him the player not the base spends around throwing the corner off and goes straight?? Make that Joe and send me two. Thanks great idea JOe PS: Joe dont forget that Safty please SIR |

:D of the future huh!wnnrcgr

For defensive players mainly in leagues that use front of the base tackling. Just brainstorming...don't know that this is important, but i had to come up with something. :D No back of the base tackling with this one.

"Unique"
Nice design Wolf, only thing, not very good for shedding blocks. Keep em commin hommie I'm listening.:D

OK....I call this the Inez Sainz base. Turn the dials to enhance the excitement of game play. A light brushing with your fingers causes the dials to vibrate like a purring kitty.
Watch...this will lead to dual dials or even quad dials for improved directional control and i was just being dirty! :D |
woooooooooooooooooooooooolf you are crazy.....thats good right there.

Darn it Wolf !!
I have to go look at that post with the jeans painted on once againdrl$$ drl$$ drl$$ |
Now we're talkin'.:D

Sorry, I took this thread off track, but I do like the idea of 4 mini dials. Another idea that I have always thought about has been a rudder like on a boat but located under the shell. No idea if it would work at all, but since we are day dreaming.

here's three I am thinking of ...
Route running WR bases. Specifically, (rounded front) diagonal running WR bases that can run in either direction, left or right. I can make diagnal running WR bases that go 45 degrees to one side but can't get them to go in multiple directions. I'm thinking something like two red pegs for the front and rear dials but with an easier mechanism for adjusting.
O-line bases that can power run block but also easily be adjusted to move back slowly for pass blocking or diagonally for kick out blocks. I'm thinking of a Proline rookie base with an ITZ dial in the center. When the dial is pointed straight forewards the prongs don't touch, but if you turn it the dial it cams lower, liftting the rookie prongs off the ground in order for the ITZ to dial to take over. On that note, defensive bases that move BOTH forewards and backwards AND can spin on a dime with the turn of a dial. I have made these, but they can be difficult to perfect and take just the right figure. It would be nice to have a base that just does this by design. These are fun bases because you can really mix up defensive coverages with these. |
4 Dials
rotating individually, I seen a mock up in an old Tweak article.thmbsp$ most practicle way of stable and consistent performance in all directions. serious thought on this one may be worth the time.:D

Great Ideas...
I have worked on spring loaded bases/figures that trigger actions from the figures. Think about how Geno's spring loaded QB arm works, except add a trigger mechanism. When the trigger is hit, the action occurs. Also similiar to a mousetrap.
I had worked on a prototype DB figure that would essentially throw the receiver to the ground when they came into contact. The figures upper torso was cocked to one side by about 1/4". When the reciever figure ran into the arms of the DB, it tripped the spring mechanism and the DB's upper body would twist back to neutral. The result was that the receiver was down on the turf. The problem is that the force would also place the DB on the ground and out of commission. It also broke way to easily and eventually I lost the pieces to put "humpty dumpty back together again".:rtfl::dohdh: :dohdh: Maybe again someday. |
I hope coaches can understand my explanation. I would like to see a figure just on a dial. The dial would have 4 or 8 prongs and be placed underneath in the middle of the players platform. This would allow the figure to STAND OUT more as far as appearance. This may also allow figure tackling. Since I'm dreaming, how about just prongs under the players platform. NO BASES. This would truly allow figure tackling.

Bruce I dont know! I'm not good with technicalities.:D Maybe the Defense can have flat front of bases and the offense rounded or visevirsa.(sp) Im thinking if the flat hits a round it will cause it to fall. MAYBE! Just dreaming. I would love a base to just go straight.:D OR do what I want.:D I would like to try and put a small magnet on the inside front of the base but have the offense - and the deffense +. So when they came close to each othe the negative reaction would cause one to fall. I dont know. Im just dreaming.

detent dials
How about TTC bases where the dials had detent positions every few degrees or so. That way, as you rotated the dials, the dials snapped into slotted positions. This would create more consistent performance for the coach because the dial turns would be incremental rather than perfectly free spinning leading to more predictable behavior after dial adjustments. The coach would not have to guess as much because he would know how the base performs in each detent location allowing blind dial turns and faster game play.

Future Bases
Love the Wolf's design. Makes a tough call alot easier.

I'd like to have a base that is cut down the middle length wise and a figure that is cut in half from head to toe. Then put 1/2 of the figure on 1/2 of the base and the other halves the same. Then have a weak magnet that holds them together. Then, when thew defender hits them, they split apart and the defender runs right through them. Then they get back together and take off down the field. It would give a new meaning to the term 'split end'. :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl: :rtfl:

"Serious Thought"
What would the next generation of bases look like & performance.
