Because my post on the 4.0 thread got off track with what the discussion at hand was, I pulled the following posts out into this seperate discussion, so some of what follows may be confusing.
Please don't take this wrong. I like all forms and weights. I just set up my team according to where I am playing but I have to say I'm confused about what we are trying to achieve. We can discuss 4.0 versus 3.2 all you want but ultimately the leagues and the tourneys are going to set whatever rule about weight they want. The only place that the MFCA could possibly come in and say anything is regarding height of a figure. Once we decide a maximum heigth for a figure from floor to top of helmet we will have essentially set a scale by which all manufatcurers current and future will hopefully abide. Also, once we set a height and a maximum base size there will be only so much weight that anybody could ever possibly add. My biggest fear is not about how much weight is added but rather that someone will suddenly create a figure that is another millimeter or more higher than what is out there or even further, a base that is a 1/8 inch bigger. At some point we have to decide what is covered under the title, "miniature football". The weights will work them selves out on their own and the arguement will eventually fade once we clarify this. Just like Beta vs VHS. The final decision on which one of these stayed around was not made by the manufacturer but by the customer. Weighting, will in time find its own ultimate standard as long as we take steps to define "miniature football". |
Maintain Perspectives
Let’s do an experiment. I am curious to see what would happen if all leagues increase their weight standards to 4.0. After that, observe the trends through out the hobby. Look and see if others attempt to go higher in weight. Compare that to those who become satisfied with being at 4.0. The way that you can monitor this is by way of the traffic on this message board.
In regards to a figure’s over all size, I see no reason to increase the size of these figures because eventually they can get so big that it would be ridiculous. As the figures become bigger, the board must grow with them. I am going to go out on a limb by saying that no one in this hobby has a room in their house that can accommodate a 10 to 15ft x 7 to 8ft board without it taking the entire room. Along with that, you would have to store the figures. Each figure would be about 4 to 5in tall. Let’s take it further by painting them, which would require multiple bottles or an entire bottle of paint depending on the brand that you use for a single color on a single team. Understanding
Detroit,
I take it that you didn't understand me. What did you miss about my statement? Did anyone else misunderstand me. Let me know if you didn't understand what I said. Maurice The Electric Coach |
If most of the league and tourney heads visit this site, and they all see what is trying to be accomplished, then changing their league and tourney rules to 4.0 doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

My bad. After re-reading I see that the 1st and 2nd paragraph are two separate issues. :dohdh:

fine point
vince 148, you said a mouth full. that is basically what i was trying to get coaches to see. so when you go to touneys you don't have to reweigh your team up or down. just go play as long as you make weigh. then we have unity in MINIATURE FOOTBALL. that's all I have to say on the matter.

Some suggestions...

Your response reflects that you like sliding weight limits according to a player's position; I too am in favor of that. When you give a maximum weight limit (whether it be 3.3 or 4.0) it pertains to the heaviest figure on the heaviest base. It doesn't mean everybody gets to be that weight. Some coaches use this loophole in the rules to give themselves license to bulk up every single player on the team to that across-the-board weight limit. Quote:

My suggestion to you is... instead of trying to get everyone else to change; Feel free to host your own tournament, and then you can set the weight limit to 4.0, 5.0, unlimited, or whatever you want it to be. Quote:
Since you truly believe this, here's what you should do... Talk to Mike and Delayne and get them to raise Miggle's weight limit, and then contact George and get him to raise Buzzfest's weight limit. The day after they've agreed to do so... call me, and I'll help you try to talk Jimbo into raising the SWB weight limit. Until that day comes... you can continue to mark us down at 3.3 We already allow all manufacturers figures as well as custom figures... they just have to make size and weight. Peace, Don Smith |
5.0 6.0 7.0
Att wolf,
I like your repsonse on the players height and weight. My personal feeling is if someone comes along and makes a figure 5.0 all the way up to 7.0, i won't mind. We play unlimited in the MPFL so what's the difference. Your right, THE HEIGHT OF THE PLAYER MUST ALWAY'S REMAIN THE SAME. If someone had a figure idea where the shoulder pads, thigh pads, maybe a little bigger helmet(so the decals are alot more visible), i would love it. Im talking thick shoulder pads and thigh pads that are rippled and detailed. Maybe a little more muscle on the arms and legs for definition. AS LONG AS THE PLATFORMS AND THE HEIGHT STAY THE SAME, WHY NOT. As long as they can perform, why not. Like i said, the MPFL is unilimited so what is the difference there. Bill porsches figures are big and bulky but they are the same height as the other figures and the platforms are the same as other fig's. The article in the tweak where i did the story on the texas shootout, that Mantaray blocker is a Bill Porsch blocker on the opening page of the article. It is much bigger than the normal size blocker but it fits in perfectly. If the player can move nicely up and down the field, why not have someone come along with more and more detail to a figure Awhile back a coach came up wth the idea of having a STANDARD CUBE MADE. A player must fit comfortably inside of this cube in order to be of legal height. This would be good so a player is not raised up to high due to coaches putting too much LEAD or Magnetix tape between the player and the base. It was a great idea that kind of got swept under the rug. PLAYER FITS IN THE CUBE WHILE ON A BASE. It was a great idea. Question is, what the heck would you make this Cube out of so it is durable enough. THANX MANTARAYDRE |

A round and round we go!!!
Geno… I agree that with you that this issue is nothing but a dead horse, and I have a suggestion in the last paragraph of my post.
Like John Oubre I have teams at various weight classes. 3.2, 3.3, 3.5, 4.0, and I’m currently trying to put together an MPFL weighted team. So my comments are solely about this topic. Quote:
The next few quotes and responses will illustrate what I’m talking about. Quote:

================================================== ======== The moral of the story… We all have the ability to choose how we’d like to play. Having choices is not a curse it’s a blessing. If you’re happy with your play style and or weight limit, then BE HAPPY!!! Constantly pretending to be the victim while brow-beating the rest of us tells me one thing… You’re not really happy with your current situation. If you were, we wouldn’t be rereading this topic every 4 to 6 months. Most of us have stopped responding to this topic because it basically covers the same ground every time. That’s why I found Geno’s beating a dead horse response so amusing. I just hope that when the next one appears in about 4 months or so, he places it at the very beginning of the thread as a gentle reminder of past mistakes. Peace, Don Smith PS. I like Lomax’s maximum-weight class distinction Class A- 3.3 Class B- 4.0 Class C- unlimited |
WOW!!!!!!!
If this was a test for a school exam many of you would get an F. An F for Failed! An F for Failure to follow instructions. This is why the community is where it is. We look for any avenue to air out our subtle differences and we secretly attack others through script and act as if it truly pertains to the question at hand! WHATEVER! we can read through the read tape. Grow up people! Lets take the posts on the board as they are written and give responses based on the questions that have been asked. If you don't like the post or you're tired of seeing the same old post then don't respond. It's that simple. Save your comments for the phone with your buddies who care enough to listen to them.
We have to understand that many people everyday are new to the hobby or have just become MFCA members. Therefore, revisiting topics is actually a pretty healthy thing to do. However, revisiting them in this fashion is not so healthy. It is important that new members see the direction of the hobby, that they see the differences in the hobby and that they understand the history of the hobby so that they can make educated decisions on what is the best way for them to enjoy the game because ENJOYMENT of the game is why we all play it, regardless of style or weight limit. So please, lets stop using this forum as an arena to attack others by projecting our feelings towards others and styles of play through the content of which we write. |
WOW!!!!!!!!!! Part 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GEE... an F for Failure!?! Hmmm... can't follow instructions?!? Let me go back and read.
Darrian mentions 3.2 and other weight limits... Wolf mentions 3.2... Reggie mentions 3.2... RJ mentions 3.2 as well... I guess in YOUR EYES they somhow failed. I'm also sure in YOUR EYES I'm just as guilty for pointing out the fact. I only commented based on what I was reading. Though this particular thread may not have started out as a 3.2 vs. 4.0 conversation... (unlike Mike Turners unity post) it seems the thread always swings around to the same ole subject. Don't get ticked because a lot of us are tired of the constant bickering about the same ole same ole. My advice to you is... Don't wait until a perceived enemy comes along for you to gear up and speak your mind. Start correcting your friends when you see them taking posts in directions that the thread wasn't meant to go in. It's obvious that it was happening in this thread, but it's funny that you didn't say squat until I came on board. I wasn't the ones who started the 3.2 debate or the ones trying to convince the world for us all to move to 4.0. All I did was confirm the fact that George Diamond was RIGHT in his assumption that this stuff happens about every 6 to 7 months. While your sitting here giving out grades, lets give ole George an A+ in math, because he sure got the darn equation right. I'd also like to add to the Dre-ster... I wasn't the one who brought up the dead horse; I only commented about it. Yes I agreed with Geno, so sue me. - Don |
