In solitaire, I like to use base-width splits to give my line room to operate.

I also prefer fast or quick linemen who get to their assignment in a hurry. Sometimes the momentum the speed gives them allows them to block stronger guys from an angle.

I mostly do this to keep the game from being a rugby scrum. It makes it interesting to me. Good luck.
